If you’re struggling to get clear on your values as a brand and business, start by understanding what you’re not.
You'll need
- •A 15 minute timer
- •Pen and paper
Getting a 1* review wouldn't be considered a good thing by most businesses, but if you’re struggling to get clear on your values as a brand and business, writing your own can be a great place to get started.
Most people find it much easier to identify how they don't want to come across, and understanding this is equally important in shaping your brand messaging.
The aim of this exercise is to help you get clear on the total opposite of what you want to be known for. It might also unearth some areas you don't feel so confident about, which can be a good prompt to see what you can do to address them.
For example, if you'd hate for someone to say you were overpriced, how can you make sure you're clearly explaining and delivering value?
Set a 15-minute timer and write out what a detailed, 1* review of your service would sound like. What would you be absolutely gutted to hear someone say about their experience of you and your business? Try to be specific and really think about the person writing it being genuinely disappointed (this isn't a revenge rant!)
Once you've written it, you just need to make sure you're doing, and conveying, the opposite!
Identifying how you don’t want to be perceived should help you gain a better understanding of the values that are important to you, and how you want people to feel by working with you.
Feeling brave? We’d love to hear yours!
