What Richard is building
I was made redundant from a great agency when my mentor retired and scaled the business back. It was the nudge I needed to finally start freelancing. Having to sell myself and put myself out there was the hard part. I've since grown in confidence, built a proper network and developed nerves of steel. What pushed me on was working more closely with people I like and respect, who challenge how I think and work. I'm proud of leading teams, tackling problems that cross disciplines, and still being self-employed after more than ten years.
I sit down with people and ask why they actually do what they do, then help brands make sense of the answers. I work for myself, so I know the feast-and-famine rhythm, the juggling and the pleasure of making a living from your own head. If you're stuck on what your people really want from you, I'm always happy to talk it through over a coffee.
