What Alex is building
My working life has been more chequered than I've said in the Bio section and certainly more than appears in my LinkedIn profile and CV. As already mentioned, I'm currently freelancing and am not yet sure, at this latter stage in my working life, where I'm heading next. Ideally it'd be a mix of a salaried part-time job and freelance consultancy but if something really interesting came out of the leftfield that'd be great too.
I'm currently working on a freelance basis for B2B market research companies including MRA Research, based in Wootton-under-Edge and basically anyone else happy to pay me for my services. My main interest is in sustainable development / circular economy and I'm hoping to meet others who do something similar or related. Then again, I'm open to most offers, Until last christmas I'd been the intelligence/insights lead at a major 2B waste recycling business, Enva Group. That was until the US private equity owner thought it a good idea to axe a bunch of the central office staff. That's private equity for you. Before this, I'd spent a good while as a research analyst-consultant at a Cheltenham-based consultancy specialising in construction, building materials, waste management & recycling. Before all this I'd worked in logistics in the container shipping sector where I worked out of Singapore covering a patch from Jakarta up to Busan in south Korea. It wasn't as glamourous as it appears as I spent most of my time at container terminals. Previous to that I tried my hand in the micro-brewing industry, cutting my teeth at a small brewery in Reigate, Surrey before becoming the brewer at a now deceased brewery near Marlborough. Working from 7am to getting home at 7pm for £12k a year put the kybosh on that and anyway the brewery went out of business as we were operating on very thin margins.
