I currently work on a freelance/contract basis, undertaking a broad range of research and consultancy projects for companies including construction firms, builders merchants, services providers, manufacturers, B2B waste management firms n' all that jazz and basically anyone else happy to pay me for my services. That makes me sound a bit sketchy I'm guessing. My main work related interest is in sustainable development / circular economy -with a focus on hard-to-recycle products - and I'm hoping to meet others who do something similar or related. Then again, I'm open to most offers. I'm not proud. Until last christmas I'd been the strategic insights lead at a £350m+ B2B waste recycling & environmental services company, Enva Group. That was until the US private equity owner thought it a good idea to axe a bunch of the central office staff. That's Merkan PE firms for you, no vision, just profits! Before this, I'd been at a Cheltenham-based consultancy specialising in the construction industry (the whole kit-and-caboodle), resource recovery, solar PV systems, energy-from-waste and biogas. I stayed there a good while as I was able to make the most of my extended lunchbreaks in the Imperial Square beer garden. Before all this, for 3 years I was in logistics in container port operations where I worked out of Singapore covering a patch from Jakarta up to Busan in south Korea. It wasn't as glamorous as it appears as I spent most of my time at container shipping terminals. That said, Singapore's fantastic and I'd go back there in a jiffy. Previous to that I tried my hand in the micro-brewing industry, cutting my teeth at a small brewery in Reigate, Surrey before becoming the brewer at a now deceased brewery near Marlborough. Working from 7am to getting home at 7pm for £12k a year put the kibosh on that and anyway the brewery went out of business as we were operating on very thin margins. Thanks for that 'Spoons! BTW if anyone here is also an uber-fan of electronica/dance music and may have a 303 and/or an 808 or a DAW I'd like to meet up. I play bass, samba drums, djembe and funk guitar a la Nile Rogers.
